  • Medicare Grocery Allowance
August 1, 2023

Medicare does not offer a grocery allowance or benefit directly through its Part A or Part B coverage. However, some Medicare Advantage plans provide a food allowance benefit, also known as a healthy foods benefit, for certain members with chronic conditions or who are dual-eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.[1][2] These benefits can help eligible plan members pay for essential living expenses like groceries, utilities, rent, and pet food.[3] If eligible for this benefit, most plans will send a grocery benefit card for the member to use when checking out. The balance on the card is applied to approved items, and the member will pay for the remaining items out-of-pocket.[4]
