  1. Determine your eligibility: To be eligible for Medicare Part A, you must be 65 years or older, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident for at least five years, and either receive or qualify for Social Security benefits.
  2. Enrollment periods: You have several enrollment periods to sign up for Medicare Part A. The Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) is seven months surrounding your 65th birthday. The General Enrollment Period (GEP) is from January 1st to March 31st each year, and there's also a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) for certain circumstances.
  3. Visit the Social Security Administration (SSA) website: Go to the official Social Security website at www.ssa.gov.
  4. Navigate to the Medicare section: Once on the SSA website, locate the Medicare section, and click on the link for "Medicare Enrollment."
  5. Fill out the application: On the Medicare Enrollment page, you'll find an online application form for Medicare Part A. Carefully provide all the required information, including your personal details and contact information.
  6. Submit the application: After reviewing and double-checking your application, submit it electronically through the SSA website. Make sure to save the confirmation number for future reference.
