Determining Your Needs.

Are you a Medicare beneficiary unsure whether to choose a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan during the Annual Enrollment Period? By asking yourself the right questions, you can determine the coverage that aligns best with your healthcare needs.

It's important to remember that not every plan is suitable for everyone, and you may not require every aspect of a plan. Here are some key factors to consider when deciding between a Medicare Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan.

Doctor's choice: Medicare Advantage plans are tied to specific healthcare provider networks, while Medicare supplement plans allow you to visit any doctor who accepts Medicare.

Managed care: People with Medicare Advantage plans may need referrals for certain services, whereas those with Medicare supplement plans can see specialists without requiring a referral.

Cost: Medicare Advantage plans often have low or $0 monthly premiums, while Medicare supplement plans come with higher monthly premiums but lower out-of-pocket costs when seeing a Medicare-accepting doctor.

Prescription drug coverage: Medicare Advantage plans often include prescription drug coverage, but you'll need separate coverage for prescriptions with a Medicare supplement plan.

Dental coverage: Similarly, dental benefits are part of a Medicare Advantage plan but not included in a Medicare supplement plan.

This list isn't exhaustive, but it serves as a starting point to help you in making informed decisions about your coverage needs.
