Questions people often ask when starting Medicare

If you are turning 65 or reviewing your current coverage these are some of the most common questions we hear.

Does it cost anything to use an independent Medicare agent?
In most cases there is no direct cost to you for a Medicare review. If you enroll through an agency the insurance company may compensate the agency. Your plan premium is generally the same whether you enroll directly or work with an agent.
What is the difference between an independent agent and a captive agent?
An independent Medicare agent may be able to compare plans from multiple carriers while a captive agent typically represents one company. The key difference is whether the person helping you can explain the tradeoffs across more than one option.
When should I start comparing Medicare plans before turning 65?
A good time to start is about three to six months before your 65th birthday or before retirement. That gives you time to review enrollment timing compare plan types check prescriptions and understand how your current coverage fits into the transition.
